MUSA REEMS // “DEAR WINTER”

PRODUCED BY: OTHELLO BEATS

OVERALL RATING : 90%

Composed of but a single verse and a piano-forward flip of the velvety melodic structure made famous by Weldon Irvine in “Morning Sunrise” that suits Chicago emcee, Musa Reems, very well, “Dear Winter” is a somber, yet powerful glimpse at nostalgia and mortality. The track is a reference to Jay Z/Memphis Bleek’s “Dear Summer” that utilized the same sample and this attempt to do so is beautifully executed both lyrically and in the overall tone of the track. The bars are solid and there’s something so compelling about Musa’s delivery here that I can’t quite put my finger on. I absolutely love the way the sample is utilized in this track so shout out to producer Othello Beats for his contributions and also shout out to Musa for cluing me in to what the original sample was. Y’all definitely need to peep this track in the immediate. Let us know what y’all think in the comments.
