Safe Sin [@staysafesin] Experiences a Rocky Landing with Spacey New EP, 'Painful'

SAFE SIN // “PAINFUL”

PRODUCED BY: DELIVERTHECRUSH + TRACSTAR + BRANDONFINNESIN

OVERALL RATING : 65%

Virginia rapper, Safe Sin, doesn’t reinvent the wheel with his brief new EP, ‘Painful’, but he does what he does well. Standing atop glossy production with pulsating 808s, slapping trap beats, and spacey synth, Safe Sin goes melody heavy with dark yet boastful lyrics and aggressive auto-tune. The first and third tracks produced by Deliverthecrush are pretty unobtrusive, but the second track, produced by Brandonfinnesin and Tracstar falls short on a few fronts; namely a few missteps in the form of some well-intentioned, but flat-falling punchlines and a sloppy feature from Icy Black that tends to rush more and more as the song goes on. Aside from those few errors, there’s nothing super egregious about this thing and I think that while I hear a lot of music in the underground that sounds like this, ‘Painful’ is without a doubt one of the cleaner, more enjoyable incarnations. Safe Sin has a solid effort on his hands and it’s definitely worth a listen. Let us know what y’all think.
