Nogoodnik [@nogoodnikDOS] Sets a New Bar for Christmas Music-Even Though It's March
NOGOODNIK // “MISTLETOES”
PRODUCED BY: COGI
OVERALL RATING : 90%
Oak Park rapper, Nogoodnik, has some things to get off his chest with his belated Christmas single, “Mistletoes” produced by Cogi. As a lifelong Jew, I’ve always hated Christmas music, but if this is Christmas music, then I could get used to it. Over a warm, unmistakably yuletide inspired jazz piano loop and a steady boom bap three-piece beat, Nogoodnik vents about a fling gone too quickly in his instantly recognizable huff and puff. The lyrics are profoundly honest and relatable without being over-the-top cliché, but the best part about this song is the sincerity. It’s refreshing in this day and age to hear an artist actually get on the mic and say some shit that they feel in a way that feels neither trite nor try-hard. The smooth as butter bass that pick up halfway through really help to make a modern connection in this track, but sadly, we’re only teased by this soothing sonic aesthetic before the track ends at just under two minutes. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it seems like Nogoodnik got everything off his chest that he needed to, but regardless, I’ve saved this song to add into my holiday season playlists at the end of the year and I recommend that y’all do the same. Bump this track below and let us know what y’all think.
